With the ever increasing controversy over aging adults and weight management issues, various entities have figured out that they can make large sums of money from people attempting to lose unwanted body weight. The greed has stirred a feeding frenzy in the area of weight loss, weight loss management and weight gain issues. These profit making efforts have cost many people financial hardship, health concerns, disfigurement, image dysphoria, physiological disorders, and even death. This lack of understanding and greed has left the American public misinformed about how the body works to increase unwanted body weight and how it gains wanted body weight.

The feeding frenzy has a large number of contributors which include cosmetic surgeons, physicians, personal trainers, exercise physiologists, physical therapists, nutritionists, nurses, nutritional companies, equipment manufactures and vendors. Other contributors include, weight loss centers/clinics which offer ear piercing for weight loss, bariatric surgery, liposuction, fad diets (i.e. restrictive diets, not eating, low carbohydrate, high proteins and high fat diets) and the list goes on. 

 The media has played a huge part in this frenzy in getting their ratings up and simply making television. Unrealistic views and expectations of so called stars, models and advertisements have definitely played a role in the way the public chooses their weight loss methods. 
 
In addition, the American public must be well informed on how to choose professional magazine(s), articles, and web sites to assist them in their choice of weight loss methods. They must also be able to interpret the data to better understand where the data and publishers are attempting to lead them.

There are procedural aspects for weight loss based on a person’s diet history and attempted weight loss techniques and procedures. To become successful you really have to expect to work hard and become disciplined over a period of time.

Professionally trained persons include and Exercise Physiologists, Weight Loss Consultant, or a Dietician who have a background or education in Exercise Physiology. Aging adults need to be guided by an Gerontologist specalizing in aging adults weight loss, with consideration to weight loss and the effects on disease and pathlogy.
  2. Lack the patience in professional guidance. They fail to follow programs designed and basic exercise protocol.
  3. Attempt weight loss for the wrong reasons i.e. weddings, summer clothing, vacations, reunions, etc.
  4. Rapid weight loss damages the microorganelles, which allow the body's ability to increase metabolism to safely reduce body weight. This distruction of microorganelles effects the endocrine system and eventually slows the body's ability to regulate and adapt to basic exercise protocol and weight loss. Over a long period of time this alteration in body regulation becomes the leading cause in diseases in aging adults.
  5. Fail to take responsibility for themselves even under the supervision of a professional . Displacement of their inability to follow through with effective weight loss strategies and design ultimately become the professionals fault or error.
  6. Inconsistency with their efforts.
  7. People in general are not well informed of BMI protocols. During our participation in health fairs, we see health and fitness centers using handheld BMI calculators without regards to BMI protocols. During health fairs and seminars countless people are being misled by the improper use of BMI calculators and understanding the results.
